Welcome to my web site!

I am an Assistant Professor in Engineering Education & Educational Technology @ Purdue University. I am primarily involved in the INNOVATIONS IN P–12 sTEm EDUCATION (a link still to come: it’s that brand-new :-)). This initiative aims to “develop research-based, pedagogically valid strategies for effective interventions that begin in the early elementary environment and guide P-20 engineering and technology pathways”.

Engineering Education is a new field and we at Purdue have the world’s first Engineering Education department. We are in charge of the first-year experience of all engineering undergraduates and also offer a Ph.D. in Engineering Education. Check the Department of Engineering Education out.

By training, I am a Learning Scientist, Instructional Designer, and Educational Technologist (slight distinctions, just ask me). Educational Technologists are the ‘engineers’ in education, meaning we are primarily concerned to assess, design, develop, and evaluate interventions for students, teachers, and educational systems. Now, you might be surprised, that in this definition computers don’t play a role. The reason is simple: Information & communication technologies (ICT) are only one form of technology, others include: job-aids, expert systems, curricula, lesson plans, activity plans, integration strategies, assessment plans, process and performance improvements etc.
